Contact Lens Fittings

Contact Lens Fittings

Thinking of exchanging your frames for contact lenses? Looking to get contacts for the first time? Whatever brings you to Precision Optometry for a contact lens fitting, we can help. After your initial comprehensive exam, we will help you select the best contact lenses for your needs.

.

How We Fit Contact Lenses

Your new contact lens must fit just right. Ill-fitting contact lenses can cause damage and irritation to the eye. In your contact lens fitting exam, an in-depth slit-lamp examination will be performed. This test is to ensure there are no hidden malformations that may prevent you from wearing contacts. After this, a corneal topography exam is performed, which measures the outline of your cornea by creating a topography of the cornea. This allows the optometrist to see how the contact lens will rest on your cornea.

They can also do a tear evaluation to check the functioning of your tear ducts. Proper moisture in your eyes is a key element to the success of wearing contact lenses. The tear duct test can check for signs of dry eye, which would make wearing contact lenses difficult to endure.

Trial Lenses

Once you’ve had your contact lens fitting, a trial pair may be offered to you to test out for a week. If this is your first experience with contact lenses, our optometrist will advise you in the proper cleaning and handling of your new lenses. After the trial period, our optometrist will see you again to discuss how the week with your trial pair went. If it went well and the trial lenses caused no issues, your optometrist will order the lenses for you. Yearly follow-up visits are necessary to test your eyes again and see if your lens prescription needs to be changed.
